Rachel Maddow, Brian Williams, and Nicolle Wallace Anchor MSNBC’s Primetime Election Night Coverage
NEW YORK (September 4, 2018) – Today, NBC News and MSNBC officially launch its in-depth 2018 midterm election coverage, The Vote: America’s Future. Both news organizations combine broadcast, cable, and digital reporting to deliver up-to-the-minute news and analysis on the key races that will determine who holds power in Washington when the dust settles in November.
On election night, NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt, TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, Meet the Press moderator and NBC News political director Chuck Todd, and Megyn Kelly TODAY host Megyn Kelly lead the network’s coverage. NBC News special correspondent Tom Brokaw, NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell, and a deep bench of NBC News correspondents around the country will contribute throughout the evening.
MSNBC coverage begins with Morning Joe and continues through MSNBC dayside and primetime. The 11th Hour with Brian Williams host Brian Williams and Rachel Maddow, host of The Rachel Maddow Show, will helm election night coverage on MSNBC joined by Deadline: White House host Nicolle Wallace.
Leading up to November, NBC News correspondents Catie Beck, Garrett Haake, Kasie Hunt, Chris Jansing, Steve Patterson, Cal Perry, Morgan Radford, Gadi Schwartz, and Jacob Soboroff as well as NBC News political reporters Shaquille Brewster, Leigh Ann Caldwell, Vaughn Hillyard, Mike Memoli, Heidi Przybyla, and Ali Vitali will report live from key locations across the country, focusing on the candidates and the crucial issues facing Americans as they prepare to vote in November.
NBC News Digital political reporters Jon Allen, Benjy Sarlin, and Alex Seitz-Wald have published an in-depth feature, “Mad About Trump,” on the biggest themes in the midterms, focusing on the profound changes and deep polarization going on in both parties. Over the next two months, Seitz-Wald will focus on the Democrats and the progressive movement in the party, Allen will cover the GOP and President Trump’s involvement in the midterms, Sarlin will concentrate on issues impacting voters and demographics, and Jane C. Timm will be fact-checking the candidates.
Across digital platforms, NBC News and MSNBC national political correspondent Steve Kornacki will host special live programming every Tuesday at 12 p.m. ET leading up to Election Day featuring his now-famous “Big Board,” which will re-launch with an all-new look using cutting-edge software developed by the NBC News Digital product and technology teams. Kornacki’s interactive map-board will be used for breaking down the details of key races and polls. Digital will also showcase a new interactive map on NBCNews.com where users can manually select district combinations to see how the balance of power in the House may shift.
Kornacki will also contribute to TODAY every Tuesday leading up to Election Day as well as NBC Nightly News, Meet the Press, Morning Joe, and all MSNBC dayside and primetime shows.
Ahead of Election Day, NBC News will continue to release a series of new polls including:

- NBC News / Marist polls focusing on key races in battleground states
- NBC News | Survey Monkey polls gauging voters’ attitudes on a range of national issues
NBC News’ social channels will continue to provide top-of-the-hour updates and will live stream election night and other special elections. On election night, NBC News Digital will host a robust live-blog and live updating results tabulations in all 50 states.
