NBC News’ Craig Melvin Reports from Epicenter of Crisis in California
City of Angels Airs Sunday, August 19 at 7 p.m. ET/PT, 6 p.m. CT.
August 16, 2018 – NBC News’ Dateline will air a special hour this Sunday that culminates a months-long, in-depth report on the growing homeless epidemic affecting half a million Americans. NBC News’ Craig Melvin’s report, City of Angels, airs this Sunday, August 19 at 7 p.m. ET/PT, 6 p.m. CT, and features an eye-opening tour of Skid Row, the nation’s epicenter of homelessness. Melvin speaks with California residents of the San Fernando Valley and Venice who are struggling to deal with the influx of homeless people into residential neighborhoods, and Los Angeles Times award-winning columnist Steve Lopez, who writes extensively about the crisis. Additionally, City of Angels includes uplifting stories about activists helping the homeless community, including Los Angeles Philharmonic violinist Vijay Gupta, who brought music programs to Skid Row, Invisible People founder Mark Horvath, whose videos and web site put a name and face to the homeless all over America, and the CEO of LA Family Housing, Stephanie Klasky-Gamer, whose innovative housing program has helped thousands get off the street.
