#1 Across the Board for Eighth Straight Broadcast, Best Streak in Almost Seven Years
Only Sunday Show to Deliver More Than Three Million Total Viewers
Dominates Key Demo by Double-Digits, Longest Winning Streak in More Than Seven Years
AUGUST 14, 2018 – “Meet the Press with Chuck Todd” (MTP) won Sunday, August 12th in a landslide as the #1 most-watched Sunday show across the board, beating the competition by nearly one million viewers each, according to Nielsen Media Research data.
The broadcast won its eighth straight broadcast across the board – its best streak in almost seven years (since Sept. 18, 2011).
Sunday’s MTP featured an exclusive interview with former assistant to the president Omarosa Manigault Newman who told Todd: “I have heard the tape” of President Donald Trump saying the n-word, and “when he talks that way, the way he did on this tape, it confirmed that he is truly a racist.” The broadcast also played exclusive audio from Manigault Newman, which she says is a recording of her firing by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly in the Situation Room on December 12th.
Nearly four million viewers (3.610 million) tuned into “Meet the Press with Chuck Todd” (MTP) this past Sunday, beating ABC’s “This Week” by +38 percent (+988,000) and CBS’ “Face the Nation” by +33 percent (+904,000). The program was the only Sunday show to deliver more than three million viewers, hitting a 17-week-high in total viewers (since April 15, 2018). MTP is #1 in total viewers for 20 of its last 23 broadcasts. Compared to the same Sunday last year, MTP more than tripled (+700,000) its total viewer lead over ABC and increased its advantage over CBS by more than five times (+740,000).
MTP continues to dominate the demo most valued by news advertisers, winning its 30th straight week among A25-54 viewers and marking its longest winning streak in more than seven years (since March 6, 2011). 897,000 key demo viewers tuned into Sunday’s program, its highest viewership in 17 weeks (since April 15, 2018). MTP beat ABC by +55 percent (+317,000) and CBS by +47 percent (+288,000). Compared to the same Sunday last year, MTP improved its advantage over ABC by +69 percent (+129,000).
An additional 334,000 total viewers and 144,000 key demo viewers tuned into Sunday’s program through a rebroadcast on NBC.
The influential Washington, D.C. market continues to choose to tune in to MTP on Sundays, as the broadcast outperformed the competition by triple-digits across the board this past Sunday. MTP has won every Sunday with total viewers for more than three straight years (since March 22, 2015).
