Only Sunday Show to Grow its Total Audience Year over Year
Marks Seven-Week High in Total Viewers, Grows Week Over Week Across the Board
JULY 10, 2018 – “Meet the Press with Chuck Todd” (MTP) was the #1 most-watched Sunday show this past Sunday, July 8, according to Nielsen Media Research data, marking its fifth week across the board as #1.
Sunday’s broadcast featured an exclusive interview with Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who told Todd that, when it comes to the Senate confirmation battle over the president’s Supreme Court nominee, the senators “on the Democratic side really take this seriously. They understand it’s an historic decision.” The broadcast also featured interviews with Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Rudy Giuliani, lawyer for President Trump.
MTP was the only Sunday show to deliver more than three million total viewers, beating ABC by double-digits. 3.013 million total viewers tuned in: +18 percent (+457,000) more than ABC’s “This Week”. This marks MTP’s ninth straight win over ABC in total viewers. Year over year, MTP grew two percent (+49,000) and more than doubled (+243,000) its lead over ABC. Compared to last week, MTP was up six percent (+163,000), hitting a seven-week high in total viewership (since 5/20/2018).
MTP also won in the demo most valued by news advertisers for its 27th straight broadcast, again beating ABC by double-digits. 771,000 A25-54 demo viewers tuned into the Sunday program: +26 percent (+160,000) more than ABC. This is the broadcast’s best streak in over seven years (since 3/06/2011). Compared to last week, MTP was up seven percent (+52,000), marking a five-week high in demo viewership (since 6/03/2018).
Season-to-date, MTP continues as the #1 most-watched Sunday show across the board, delivering its biggest total viewer win over ABC in six years (since 2011-12) and CBS in seven years (since 2010-11).
MTP continues to dominate the influential Washington, D.C. market, outperforming its competition across the board and winning every Sunday with total viewers for more than three straight years (since March 22, 2015).
An additional 855,000 total viewers and 188,000 A25-54 viewers watched the Sunday program through rebroadcasts on NBC and MSNBC.
