SEPT. 3, 2017 – In an exclusive interview on “Meet the Press” this morning, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) reacted to North Korea’s nuclear test conducted overnight, telling moderator Chuck Todd: “The president putting everything on the table is not a bad thing right now, both for North Korea, but maybe, more importantly, for China to be thinking about how consequential this behavior is.” He added that North Korea has been “the number-one topic, month after month” in the Senate Intelligence Committee.

NBC News correspondent Ron Allen joined the broadcast live from Seoul, South Korea, and NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell offered analysis of the president’s tweets this morning, telling Todd that “the word ‘appeasement’ is just such an insult to South Korea, which is sitting there right in target range.”

The broadcast then turned its focus to the aftermath of historic Hurricane Harvey. Blunt responded to the administration tying the debt ceiling to Harvey spending: “That’s one way to do it. … I never have great enthusiasm for raising the debt ceiling.” Watch the senator’s full interview.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said, “Over 95 percent of the city is now dry,” and that he feels “very comfortable about our water system” in response to flooding at superfund sites run by the E.P.A. Watch the mayor’s full interview.

Matthew Continetti of the Washington Free Beacon, Eddie S. Glaude, Jr. of Princeton University, Susan Page of USA TODAY and Kristen Welker of NBC News joined this morning’s roundtable for insight and analysis, including a discussion on the latest palace intrigue with the president’s new chief of staff John Kelly.
