Breaks Six-Year Streak with Sixth Consecutive Quarter Win in Key Demo
Tops Competition in Key Demo by Double-Digits for Quarter and Month of June
Continues as #1 Sunday Public Affairs Program Across the Board Season-to-Date
JUNE 27, 2017 – NBC News’ “Meet the Press with Chuck Todd” (MTP), the #1 most-watched Sunday public affairs program season-to-date, won the demo most valued by news advertisers for the second quarter of 2017 (2Q’17), according to Nielsen data.
Delivering an average of 969,000 A25-54 viewers, MTP topped its competition by double digits: +25 percent (+192,000) more than ABC’s “This Week” and +26 percent (+198,000) more than CBS’ “Face the Nation.” This is the sixth straight quarter that MTP has dominated the key demo, breaking a six-year streak; the last time this happened was from 2Q’10 to 3Q’11.
MTP also won the month of June in the key demo, marking its 17th straight month at #1; the last time the broadcast dominated the key demo for seventeen consecutive months was from May 2010 to September 2011. An average of 917,000 demo viewers tuned into the broadcast for the month, +21 percent (+158,000) more than ABC and +38 percent (+251,000) more than CBS.
3.276 million viewers tuned into MTP on average in 2Q’17, +11 percent (+313,000) more than ABC. Just five percent (171,000) of viewers separated MTP from CBS, which continues to rate for only the first 30 minutes of its hour-long program. Rating for a total of 499 minutes, MTP was rated for 139 minutes (more than two hours) more than CBS this quarter.
In June, MTP averaged 3.126 million total viewers, beating ABC by nine percent (+247,000). Just two percent (75,000) separated MTP from CBS’ half-hour.
