Hadley Reacts to Being Falsely Accused of Attempted Rape of Ex-Fiancé’s Wife and Discusses Her Time in Jail
“Dateline NBC: Diabolical” Airs Friday, February 24 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, 9 p.m. CT
February 22, 2017 – In her first-ever TV interview, recently exonerated Michelle Hadley tells “Dateline NBC” correspondent Dennis Murphy, “I’ll carry this around for the rest of my life,” after she was falsely accused of attempted forcible rape of Angela Diaz. Hadley added, “I appreciate the apologies. But the apologies don’t rebuild your life and the apologies don’t undo what’s been done.” To watch the exchange, click here. Hadley spent three months in jail last year, accused of stalking Angela Diaz online and responding to “rape fantasy ads” under Angela’s name. Hadley was exonerated in January, after Angela Diaz was charged with multiple felony counts and accused of framing Hadley. Angela has pleaded not guilty. Hadley was previously engaged to Ian Diaz, Angela’s husband. The interview is part of an all-new, one-hour Dateline, “Diabolical,” which airs Friday, February 24 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, 9 p.m. CT.
Sergeant Daron Wyatt of the Anaheim police department defended the investigation to Murphy, saying “Our detective didn’t create the situation. Angela Diaz did. We did what we had to do as the circumstances came about and as the evidence presented itself, up to and including continuing to investigate and exonerate Michelle.” To watch the preview, click here. The transcripts of the interviews are included below.
“Diabolical” also features interviews with key players in the case, such as: Hadley’s parents Suzanne and Michael, Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas, Sergeant Daron Wyatt, Hadley’s defense attorney Michael Guisti, Diaz’s defense attorney Allison Margolin and Daily Beast reporter Kate Briquelet.

DENNIS MURPHY: Were the apologies enough? Your county authorities… saying “we got this terribly wrong.”
MICHELLE HADLEY: I appreciate the apologies. But the apologies don’t rebuild your life and the apologies don’t undo what’s been done. I’ll carry this around for the rest of my life and there’s still that question of what’s ahead.
###
SERGEANT DARON WYATT: The Anaheim police department, our detective didn’t create the situation. Angela Diaz did. We did what we had to do as the circumstances came about, and as the evidence presented itself, up to and including continuing to investigate and exonerate Michelle.
