NBC News Tops ABC By 37% In News Demo
Lester Holt Led NBC News’ Coverage, Joined By Tom Brokaw, Chuck Todd and Nicolle Wallace
NEW YORK (January 21, 2017) – More Americans turned to NBC News for coverage of the inauguration of President Donald Trump than any other broadcast network.
According to Nielsen Media Research fast national data, NBC News averaged 5.8 million total viewers during 10 a.m. – 5:45 p.m. ET coverage of the inauguration, outperforming ABC by 887,000 (+18%) and CBS by 1.2 million (+27%). Among A25-54 viewers, NBC News averaged 1.9 million viewers, leading ABC by 528,000 (+37%) and CBS by 790,000 (+69%). In A18-49, NBC News averaged 1.6 million, topping ABC by 525,000 (+47%) and CBS by 724,000 (+79%).
Inauguration coverage on the NBC broadcast network aired from 10 a.m. – 5:45 p.m. ET, led by “NBC Nightly News” anchor Lester Holt, who was joined by “Meet the Press” moderator and NBC News political director Chuck Todd, NBC News political analyst Nicolle Wallace, and NBC News special correspondent Tom Brokaw, who has covered every presidential election since 1968.
Compared to the 2013 presidential inauguration, NBC was up 17% in total viewers and 22% in the demo.
NBC News’ presidential inauguration video content generated more than 39M video views across all platforms and channels.
NBC News was the most watched news organization of Election 2016. More Americans turned to NBC News and MSNBC combined for coverage of the Republican National Convention, Democratic National Convention, presidential and vice presidential debates, and Election Night. Among broadcast networks, NBC News swept Election 2016 primetime coverage in the news demo (note: NBC did not air the second presidential debate).
