Two-Hour Dateline Special Features First-Ever TV Interviews with Former Boulder PD Detective Jane Harmer, Former Denver PD Detective Tom Haney and Never-Before-Seen Case Documents

“Dateline NBC: Who Killed JonBenét?” Airs Friday, September 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, 8 p.m. CT
NEW YORK (September 6, 2016) – In her first-ever television interview, former Boulder, Colorado police department detective Jane Harmer tells “Dateline NBC” correspondent Josh Mankiewicz that she agreed with the grand jury recommendation to indict JonBenét Ramsey’s parents, saying: “I think that the grand jurors heard the evidence and came up with that conclusion and I would agree with their conclusion.” Harmer adds she also agreed with the district attorney’s decision not to pursue charges against the Ramseys and she explains why as part of a two-hour “Dateline NBC” special, “Who Killed JonBenét?” debuting Friday, September 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The “Dateline NBC” special also features an interview with Bob Whitson, a retired detective sergeant at Boulder PD who was at the Ramsey house on the day the murder investigation began. Whitson is an advocate of the “Intruder Theory,” as some close to the case believe the murderer broke into the Ramsey’s house.
“The behavior at the scene does not match up” with the Ramseys, Whitson tells Dateline. “It matches up a sexually sadistic person and a psychopath.”
“Dateline NBC: Who Killed JonBenét?” includes crucial case documents that have never before been made public, and the first TV interview with Tom Haney, a former Denver police department detective who was brought in by the Boulder district attorney’s office to interview Patsy Ramsey. It also features tapes of the police interview with Burke Ramsey, JonBenét’s brother, and interviews with key players in the case and people close to the Ramseys, including: Pam Barday, a Ramsey family friend; Kimberly Archuleta, the 9-1-1 dispatcher who took Patsy Ramsey’s call on the morning of December 26, 1996; Fred Patterson, a former Boulder PD detective; and Ron Walker, a former agent in the FBI’s Denver office.
This year marks 20 years since six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey was found dead in the basement of her family’s home in Boulder on December 26, 1996. In 1999, a grand jury recommended indictments against Ramsey’s parents, but district attorney Alex Hunter did not sign the indictments and decided not to take the case to trial. In 2008, Hunter’s successor, district attorney Mary Lacy, wrote a letter exonerating the Ramseys, based on DNA evidence. The case remains open.
