NBC Broadcast Grows Week over Week and Year over Year in the Demo
NEW YORK (June 7, 2016) – “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” was the #1 evening newscast in the A25-54 demo for the week of May 30 – June 3. The NBC broadcast averaged 1.9 million A25-54 viewers, outperforming ABC by +163,000 (+10%) and CBS by +413,000 (+28%). Nightly’s A25-54 delivery hit a four-week high, with its biggest lead over ABC in three weeks and widest advantage over CBS in eight weeks. The NBC broadcast has been #1 in the demo for over 11 straight months.
Week-to-week, Nightly showed the biggest growth among A25-54 viewers (+3%, or +54,000) and it grew +4% in the demo year over year, while ABC was down -13% from last year.
Nightly also won the week among A18-49 viewers, averaging 1.4 million viewers, topping ABC by +137,000 (+11%) and CBS by +371,000 (+37%). Nightly has now been #1 among A18-49 viewers for over 13 consecutive months.
NOTE: Due to the Memorial Day holiday and the NBA Finals, NBC and CBS are based on a 4-day average (Tuesday-Friday), while ABC is based on a 3-day average (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday).
Season to date, Nightly is the #1 evening news program in total viewers, A25-54 and A18-49 viewers. Nightly has ranked #1 in A25-54 and A18-49 for 45 consecutive weeks and 49 of the 50 weeks since Lester Holt officially became anchor.

- Nightly averaged 1.880 million A25-54 viewers, outperforming ABC by +163,000 (+10%) and CBS by +413,000 (+28%)
- Nightly’s A25-54 delivery hit a four-week high, with its biggest lead over ABC in three weeks and widest advantage over CBS in eight weeks.
- Nightly averaged 1.370 million A18-49 viewers, topping ABC by +137,000 (+11%) and CBS by +371,000 (+37%)
- Nightly has ranked #1 in A25-54 and A18-49 for 45 consecutive weeks and 49 of the 50 weeks since Lester Holt officially became anchor.
- Nightly’s A18-49 delivery hit a five-week high in its A18-49 delivery, with its best advantage over ABC in three weeks.
- Versus the same week last season, Nightly posted gains of +68,000 among both A25-54 and A18-49 viewers. It also saw a 325,000 viewer turnaround in its A25-54 advantage vs. ABC (+163,000 win last week vs. a -162,000 loss last year).
- Week-to-week, Nightly showed the biggest growth among A25-54 viewers (+3%, or +54,000) and A18-49 viewers (+5%, or +60,000).
- Nightly averaged 7.705 million total viewers, leading CBS Evening News by +1.175 million (+18%).
Season to Date:
- Season to date, Nightly is the #1 evening news program in total viewers, A25-54 viewers, and A18-49 viewers.
- Nightly averages 8.768 million total viewers, +232,000 (+3%) ahead of ABC and +1.475 million (+20%) more than CBS.
- Nightly averages 2.120 million A25-54 viewers, leading ABC by +194,000 (+10%) and CBS by +437,000 (+26%).
- Nightly is the only evening news program with year-over-year growth among A25-54 viewers this season.
- Nightly is posting a 197,000 viewer turnaround in its A25-54 lead vs. ABC (+194,000 lead this season vs. a -3,000 deficit this time last year).
- Nightly has also improved its demo advantage vs. CBS by 4% over last season (+437,000 this season vs. 420,000 last season).
- Nightly averages 1.529 million A18-49 viewers, outperforming ABC by +184,000 (+14%) and CBS by +384,000 (+33%)
- Nightly has more than doubled its A18-49 advantage over ABC versus last season (up 109% vs. a +98,000 lead last season).
