Nightly Wins Across-The-Board for the Ninth Consecutive Week
The NBC Broadcast Increases Its Lead over ABC Week-to-Week
NEW YORK (April 12, 2016) – “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” ranked #1 across-the-board for the week of April 4-8, 2016 and is the only evening newscast of the three networks to deliver year-over-year gains in every key demo. America’s most-watched evening newscast averaged 8.32 million total viewers for the week of April 4, outperforming ABC by +387,000 (+5%) and CBS by +1.56 million viewers (+23%). This marks the fourth straight week that Nightly has topped ABC by at least 300,000 viewers.
Nightly posted gains across the board year-to-year, while both ABC and CBS saw losses in all categories. Versus the same week last season, the NBC broadcast was up in total viewers (+4%, +294,000), A25-54 viewers (+5%, +90,000), and A18-49 viewers (+8%, +106,000). Week-to-week, the NBC broadcast saw higher advantages over ABC in total viewers (by 9%), A25-54 viewers (by 13%), and A18-49 viewers (by 47%).
Nightly has been #1 in total viewers for nine consecutive weeks and 39 of the 42 weeks since Holt was named anchor. Season-to-date, Nightly is the #1 evening news program in total viewers, A25-54 and A18-49 viewers. Among the A25-54 and A18-49 demos, the NBC broadcast has been ranked #1 for 37 consecutive weeks.

- Nightly averaged 1.93 million A25-54 viewers, outperforming ABC by +184,000 (+11%) and CBS by +443,000 (+30%)
- Nightly averaged 1.4 million A18-49 viewers, leading ABC by +168,000 (+14%) and CBS by +418,000 (+42%).
- The NBC broadcast is #1 in A25-54 and A18-49 viewers for 37 consecutive weeks.
Season-to-Date:
- Season-to-date, Nightly is the #1 evening news broadcast in total viewers, A25-54 viewers and A18-49 viewers.
- Nightly averages 8.99 million total viewers, +272,000 (+3%) ahead of ABC and +1.513 million (+20%) more than CBS.
- Nightly averages 2.2 million A25-54 viewers, leading ABC by +200,000 (+10%) and CBS by +453,000 (+26%).
- Nightly has widened its A25-54 lead vs. ABC by 185,000 viewers versus last season (+200,000 lead this season vs. a +15,000 lead this time last year).
- Nightly averages 1.583 million A18-49 viewers, outperforming ABC by +203,000 (+15%) and CBS by +402,000 (+34%)
- Nightly has improved its A18-49 advantage over ABC by 75% versus last season (vs. a +87,000 lead last season).
