Six in 10 Approve of the President’s Nomination
56 Percent Hold a Favorable Impression of the U.S. Supreme Court
41 Percent Think the U.S. Supreme Court Has Too Much Power
MARCH 18, 2016 – After President Obama’s nomination of Judge Merrick Garland to replace Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court this past Wednesday, six in 10 Americans believe Congress should hold a vote now to confirm the nomination, according to a new NBC News|SurveyMonkey online poll.
Six in 10 Americans also approve of the president’s nomination while a third of poll respondents disapprove.
56 percent hold a favorable impression of the U.S. Supreme Court, which has too much power, according to 41 percent.
The poll was conducted online from March 17-18, 2016 among a national sample of 1,838 adults aged 18 and over. Results have an error estimate of 3.5 percentage points.
