New York – June 10, 2015 – NBC’s Dateline will take viewers inside the extraordinary lives of children who suffer from rare medical conditions that prevent them from one of life’s simplest pleasures: sunlight. “Out of the Shadows” documents the diverse cases of children diagnosed with Erythropoietic Protoporphyria (EPP), a disorder that leaves them in severe pain when exposed to direct sunlight and UV rays, and Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP), an illness with potentially fatal consequences. Parents who were forced to flip their world upside down speak candidly with NBC News National Correspondent Kate Snow about the hardships they face to protect their children from relentless sunlight, isolation and ridicule.
