August 16, 2023 (New York, NY) — MSNBC was the most-watched cable network on Monday, August 14 in total day (6am-2am), prime (8pm-11pm), and during perspective and analysis programming from 4pm to midnight, according to Nielsen ratings data. 

Yesterday’s special coverage included former President Donald Trump’s indictment in Fulton County, Georgia for felony racketeering and conspiracy surrounding the 2020 presidential election. 

MSNBC drew 1.6M total viewers in total day and 201K A25-54 viewers (6am-2am), propelling the network to #1 across all of cable television (ahead of #2 FOX News, #3 CNN, and #4 USA).

  • MSNBC drew 3.1 million total viewers in prime (vs. CNN’s 1.2M and FOX News’ 2.2M) and 415K viewers A25-54 (vs. CNN’s 232K and FOX News’ 254K), making it the network’s most-watched night of 2023 among both total viewers and A25-54. 
  • MSNBC was #1 across cable news in both total viewers and A25-54 during “Morning Joe” at 6am, “Deadline: White House” at 4pm, and from 9pm through 2am. MSNBC was #1 in A25-54 across cable news during “The Beat with Ari Melber” at 6pm, “The ReidOut” at 7pm and “All In with Chris Hayes” at 8pm.
  • MSNBC’s 9pm hour, which featured an exclusive one-on-one interview with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was #1 across all of television (ahead of #3 CBS, #4 ABC, and #5 FOX News; CNN #9). The 9pm hour was also the #1 cable news program in both A25-54 and total viewers on Monday. “The Rachel Maddow Show” tripled CNN’s total viewers with 3.9M (vs. CNN’s 1.25M vs. FOX News’ 2.4M), and doubled CNN’s demo audience with 538K A25-54 viewers (vs. CNN’s 255K vs. FOX News’ 285K). 
  • The 10pm hour was #1 across all of television (ahead of #2 CBS, #3 FOX News, and #5 USA) with 3.2M viewers (vs. CNN’s 1.3M and FOX News’ 2.0M). Among A25-54, the 10pm hour drew 436K viewers, #1 among cable news networks (vs. CNN’s 267K, FOX News’ 252K).
  • During the 11pm hour – as Fulton County DA Fani Willis gave a press conference about the 41-count indictment – and during the Midnight hour, MSNBC was #1 across all of cable television among A25-54 (ahead of #2 CNN, #3 FOX News, and #4 TLC) and total viewers (ahead of #2 FOX News, #3 CNN, and #4 TLC) and total viewers. MSNBC doubled CNN’s total viewership in those hours.
  • More viewers turned to MSNBC from 9pm through 3am than FOX News and CNN combined.
