TOMORROW – TUNE IN TO MSNBC’S ALL-NEW WEEKEND LINEUP

Expanded slate features two additional hours of live programming

“The Weekend” kicks off Saturday and Sunday lineup at 7 a.m. ET, featuring Jonathan Capehart, Eugene Daniels and Jackie Alemany  

Ali Velshi adds an hour to his namesake program, “Velshi” 

Introducing “The Weekend: Primetime” airing at 6 p.m. ET with Ayman Mohyeldin, Antonia Hylton, Catherine Rampell and Elise Jordan

Plus, “Alex Witt Reports” airs at 1 p.m. ET, “PoliticsNation” airs at 5 p.m. ET 

(New York – May 2, 2025) – Tomorrow, tune in to MSNBC’s all-new weekend lineup featuring two added hours of live programming, including a three-hour edition of “The Weekend,” an expanded “Velshi” and the all-new “The Weekend: Primetime.” 

“THE WEEKEND” KICKS OFF THE NEW LINEUP, EXPANDING FROM TWO TO THREE HOURS, AIRING SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FROM 7 TO 10 A.M. ET

  • Longtime MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart, MSNBC Senior Washington Correspondent Eugene Daniels and MSNBC Washington Correspondent Jackie Alemany will helm MSNBC’s marquee morning weekend show, “The Weekend,” in extended hours Saturdays and Sundays from 7 to 10 a.m. ET. Based in Washington, D.C., the hosts will bring their deep Washington backgrounds and political acumen to MSNBC’s viewers. 

  • Jonathan Capehart is a veteran MSNBC host. A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Capehart is also an Associate Editor at The Washington Post, as well as a political analyst on PBS “NewsHour.” Capehart was honored by the Human Rights Campaign with the “Beacon of Courage Award” last week for his long-standing commitment to journalism and said of the honor and his career: “It’s a willingness to dream big that is what got me here today.”

  • Eugene Daniels is an MSNBC Senior Washington Correspondent. With a deep knowledge of Washington, Daniels has interviewed top political figures, including former Vice President Kamala Harris throughout her vice presidency and campaign for president. Prior to his current role, he was most recently the Chief Playbook Correspondent and White House Correspondent for POLITICO. Daniels was recognized by Voto Latino ahead of this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner with the organization’s “Trailblazer Award.” At the organization’s annual award ceremony, Daniels reflected on his career, noting: “You belong in every single room you find yourself in.” 
  • A longtime Washington, D.C.-based reporter, Jackie Alemany is an MSNBC Washington Correspondent. Known for her immersive reporting on the latest happenings in the nation’s capitalshe has appeared on the network dozens of times in the past year. Prior to joining MSNBC, Alemany worked as a White House reporter for The Washington Post and was part of The Washington Post’s team that won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. POLITICO highlighted her arrival to MSNBC, noting that she was “eight months pregnant when she was hired as Washington Correspondent and co-host of ‘The Weekend,’” with Alemany telling the outlet “I’m still a little bit in shock about having this opportunity… It’s pretty surreal.”
  • “Each member of the trio will bring a unique flair to the anchor desk, emulating something of a friends-at-brunch dynamic,” PEOPLE noted on the new co-hosts. “It’s not just bringing new voices to the table, it’s also shining a spotlight on issues that the viewers might not know that they should either care about or that they will care about come the following days, following weeks,” Capehart told The Hollywood Reporter

ALI VELSHI EXPANDS HIS NAMESAKE PROGRAM WITH ADDITIONAL HOUR ON SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS FROM 10 A.M TO 1 P.M. ET

  • Beginning tomorrow, Ali Velshi will expand his namesake show, “Velshi,” to three hours, now airing Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET, offering even more of his signature analysis and in-depth coverage.
  • Ali Velshi is a longtime host and MSNBC’s Chief Correspondent. A regular primetime fill-in host, Velshi is known for his sharp business insights and extensive global on-the-ground reporting experience, and will continue to deliver firsthand coverage of major domestic and international news and events every Saturday and Sunday morning.

“THE WEEKEND: PRIMETIME” CAPS OFF WEEKEND COVERAGE AIRING SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS FROM 6 TO 9 P.M. ET

  • As an expansion of “The Weekend” franchise, MSNBC will launch “The Weekend: Primetime,” co-hosted by respected MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin, MSNBC Correspondent Antonia Hylton, syndicated opinion columnist for The Washington Post Catherine Rampell and MSNBC Contributor Elise Jordan airing Saturdays and Sundays from 6 to 9 p.m. ET.

  • Veteran MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin is a longtime foreign correspondent and frequently serves as a primetime fill-in host for the network, providing commentary and analysis across all MSNBC platforms. Prior to his role at MSNBC, Mohyeldin served as an NBC News foreign correspondent based in the Middle East and Europe, reporting from dozens of countries during war, upheaval and disasters. 
  • An Emmy, Murrow, Peabody and Gracie award-winning journalist, Antonia Hylton is also an MSNBC Correspondent. Prior to her current role, Hylton was an NBC News Correspondent where she covered the 2024 election, protests across college campuses and more. She also served as a correspondent and producer for Vice Media and HBO’s nightly news and documentary show, “Vice News Tonight.” Poynter notes that at a young age, Hylton “already has an extensive and impressive career in journalism.”
  • Elise Jordan is a MSNBC Contributor. A regular on “Morning Joe,” she previously served as an MSNBC and NBC News Political Analyst. Prior to her role at MSNBC, she served in various press and communications roles during the George W. Bush administration across the White House, National Security Council and State Department. During her time in government, Jordan also worked on overseas assignments at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and at the NATO-ISAF headquarters in Kabul.
  • Aside from her new role at MSNBC, Catherine Rampell is a syndicated opinion columnist for The Washington Post where she has done extensive reporting and commentary on various economic and political issues. Prior to joining MSNBC, Rampell was an Economics and Politics Commentator for CNN, as well as a Special Correspondent for PBS “NewsHour,” focusing on economic and business issues.
  • Variety notes that the show’s co-hosts each have “a distinctive background that is unlike the others,” with Rampell telling the publication that they “all bring something a little bit different” to the mix.

“ALEX WITT REPORTS” CONTINUES TO AIR SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS FROM 1 TO 4 P.M. ET; “POLITICSNATION” AIRS SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS FROM 5 TO 6 P.M. ET

  • Alex Witt, host of MSNBC’s “Alex Witt Reports,” will continue to deliver the latest breaking news, in-depth reporting and live coverage of the day’s top stories Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. ET. 
  • Rev. Al Sharpton will continue to helm his long-running program, “PoliticsNation” Saturdays and Sundays from 5 to 6 p.m. ET. 

The new weekend lineup comes as the network continues to surge in viewership, with the network topping CNN in the first quarter of 2025 for the 5th straight quarter on weekends. MSNBC weekend coverage also had double-digit viewership growth compared to pre-inauguration norms: up 39% among total viewers and 62% in the 25-54 demo. Since its launch in January 2024, the morning edition of “The Weekend” has seen a 35% increase in total viewership.
