CNBC, the global leader in business and financial news, will reach Brazilians for the first time in the local language via an exclusive content licensing partnership. The venture is to be led by journalist and media leader Douglas Tavolaro, previously the founder and CEO of CNN Brasil
March 5th, 2024 – Today it was announced that a new Brazilian media group has been formed, Times Brasil, that will hold exclusive, Portuguese-language rights to content from the world’s premier business and financial news brand CNBC, owned by NBCUniversal.
CNBC is the global leader in business and financial journalism, producing news content that is consumed by half a billion people each month across all platforms.
Times Brasil will be a multiplatform business news outlet, featuring 24-hour news coverage, along with programming covering topics that influence and inspire the business world, including politics, sports, lifestyle, entertainment, and reality programming.
The new company is led and founded by journalist Douglas Tavolaro. Tavolaro, who has 25 years of experience as the founder and leader of major media companies in Brazil. He will serve as the Chairman of the Board and the Editorial Board, which will operate independently and adhere to international editorial standards.
Attention Economics, a London-based company specialized in international media ventures, provided consultancy on structuring the new business. The company is represented by Gregory Beitchman, who served as Senior Commercial Vice President for WarnerMedia and CNN International, and as the global commercial leader of Thomson Reuters.
Beitchman has overseen the launch of more than a dozen new media companies around the world. He has implemented licensed operations for Bloomberg in Eastern Europe and CNN in Japan, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, Philippines, Turkey, Greece, India and Africa.
Multiplatform Production
The agreement is the first of its kind to be signed by CNBC in Brazil. For the first time the award-winning content of the global leader in business and financial news will be available to the Brazilian population of 215 million people, in one of the largest and most vibrant economies on the planet, exclusively on Times Brasil platforms.
The new company will have extensive production of content by Brazilians for Brazilians. The licensing agreement includes access to all exclusive content produced around the world by CNBC and will be showcased, in first instance, by the Brazilian company on TV and all digital platforms.
CNBC produces over 15 hours of live programming daily on a 24/7 TV news network operated by CNBC across the USA, Asia, Middle East and Europe. It has newsrooms in Singapore and London, connected to broadcast studios in key international markets.
The journalism of NBCUniversal News Group, which controls CNBC, is a market leader in the US and operates a diverse portfolio of news brands including NBC News and MSNBC.

Brazilian Executive Team
Times Brasil will be launched with its editorial headquarters in São Paulo, the financial capital of Brazil, and with correspondents in the main Brazilian capitals and abroad. The station will have a multimedia presence, available to Brazilians on television, streaming, digital platforms and other means of distribution.

About Douglas Tavolaro
A journalist with more than 25 years of experience, he is recognized for being the founder and leader of major news companies in Brazil. In 2020, Tavolaro conceived and founded CNN Brasil. During his tenure, in just 12 months, he implemented more than 5,500 hours of exclusive and live journalism on TV, with more than 4,000 hours dedicated to covering the pandemic. Under his coordination, the company became the highest-rated among AB audiences in Brazilian news channels (79% in the national market), with the highest index in the young age group (between 35 and 49 years old), and with over 15 million followers on social media.
