PLUS: NBC Asian America Will Debut ‘AANHPI Vote’ Series 

May 1, 2024 — NBCUniversal News Group will spotlight Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander heritage throughout the month of May with comprehensive programming across NBC News, NBC News NOW, MSNBC, CNBC, NBCNews.com, NBCU Academy, Telemundo, and NBCUniversal Local.

MSNBC‘s The Katie Phang Show will cover a range of topics, including a discussion with New York Congresswoman Grace Meng on the growing influence of the AANHPI voting bloc. Phang will also examine mental health stigmatization in South Asian communities and offer a unique perspective on preserving disappearing Chinatowns nationwide. Additionally, TikTok Influencer Soogia will join Katie to discuss content creation and managing imposter syndrome.

NBCNews.com’s vertical, NBC Asian America, will debut the “AANHPI Vote” series into crucial topics for AANHPI voters, including identity concerns, evolving trends, significant milestones, and interviews with candidates to watch in the 2024 elections. Additionally, NBC Nightly News with Lester HoltTODAY, and NBC News NOW will feature stories, including on a former Japanese Americanincarceration camp that has evolved into a recognized national park and on Asian American Ladies Professional Golf Association players vying for a spot on team USA’s women’s golf team for the 2024 Olympics. NBCU Local’s NBC– and Telemundo-owned stations will present special stories in its local newscasts and across its portfolio of streaming news channels.

CNBC will spotlight prominent business figures from the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities and feature reporting on the wealth effect impact and representation in media. Additionally, the network will showcase vignettes highlighting AANHPI business leaders. CNBC Primetime will air Shark Tank episodes featuring Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander-owned businesses every Tuesday at 9pm ET throughout May. CNBC.com will delve into a regional bank targeting Asian American clientele, challenges in the legal profession, and the earnings gap within the community. CNBC Make It will feature a successful Korean restaurant and spotlight a breakup coach making six-figures. CNBC en Español will report on Asian Latino entrepreneurs and feature advice from Asian Latino CFPs aimed at financial education.

NBCU Academy’s Equity Lab will publish a piece on understanding and actively avoiding stereotypes of AANHPI communities in the media. Furthermore, the Academy’s Storytellers vertical will highlight the vital contributions of immigrant farmers who sustain New Orleans’ Vietnamese community through their agriculture.
